Neil’s 36 hour Ride

For 2020 season, I had three major events I was targeting: Copperopolis Road Race (4/11), Berkeley Hills Road Race (5/9) and Mt Diablo Challenge (10/7). I had started working with coach Amber Smolik since February to help me get my training and fitness to a new level when the COVID-19 events started to unfold. Prior to the “Shelter in Place” (SIP) mandate came to effect, I had been doing great training rides with teammates Kurt Holt, Nick Grudzien, and our coach Amber and I felt my fitness was rapidly improving.

Virtual Team Time Trial

As the Covid-19 pandemic and SIP have shut down our ability to race in the real world, it hasn’t prevented us from racing virtually! Hopefully you’ve seen the pictures, videos and reports about the virtual TNT’s that many of our Red Peloton teammates participated in. This was a great series and proved to be almost as challenging as the real thing…

Sky Express Livermore Criterium

Livermore. A 4-corner corporate center flat and, in the morning at least, wind free course. Last year, under a different race organizer and different categories, I attempted to bridge a gap to a teammate and accidentally dragged the field across, then I promptly blew up and went off the back…

Rockville CX Race #8

After years of trying, it finally happened. So many races, so many mishaps and incidents, so many times near the front.

Rockville was dry. It has not rained there in weeks. I have not raced there in two weeks. After my last mud filled debacle, I decided to switch to narrower tires that would not deposit half the wet soil of Solano County on my frame. My last tires turned out to be 42mm, not 38mm as I thought. I went with some nice 33’s, and the weight difference was amazing.

Grasshopper Low Gap

Starting this winter, I decided to get my hands and feet dirty (figuratively and literally) with cyclocross and gravel riding. What a better opportunity that the Grasshopper Low Gap: it is only 43 miles, 50% percent of which is on pavement, and 5,600 ft of climbing. I was very excited to be riding with my teammates on my first gravel adventure, and I was very fortunate to have their guidance through the whole process. We even organized a tubeless party, they helped choose the best tire set up and get my bike ready for the event…

Parkpoint: Let’s Hit the Road

Every Year, the Red Peloton partners with our sponsor Parkpoint Health Clubs to offer members the opportunity to experience a group road ride and learn the in and outs of cycling.

Mike Charleton, a 3 times State champion and National bronze medalist with 28 years of experience, is the ride leader and mentor…

Stafford Lake Dual Slalom

My racing career started many years ago racing Downhill, Mountain cross (Mountain bike’s version of BMX) and Dual Slalom (Like Skiing).

Having ridden the bike part out at Stafford lake a few times, I was feeling nostalgic and decided I’d go race the dual slalom event they were hosting. I haven’t raced gravity in close to 14 years, so my expectations where pretty low. To add to my low expectations, the “open” category was everyone between 19 and 39!…
