Sponsor Etiquette

Sponsor the Latin sponsor (pl. sponsores), word meaning guarantor.

Remember NorCal Bike Sport is our main financial contributor, namesake, and local support shop.

In respect to our sponsors here are some
Do’’s and Don”ts to live, train, race, commute and recreate by:

Do

  • Obey all traffic laws and rules of the road
  • Be courteous to drivers (they are bigger than you are) and pedestrians
  • Ride single file, double where location permits
  • Always speak highly of sponsors (oopsss, that was one of our sponsors on that bike!)
  • Beware of your surroundings, announce ”Car Back”
  • Keep your bike and equipment clean
  • Allow cars at 4-way intersections to make right turns when you”re stopped at the front by looking back and scooting to the left while making eye contact (hopefully with a smile) as if to say “c”mon through, sorry I was blockin” ya”.
  • Send in your friends, family and neighbors to NorCal and Bike Peddler. But not for the “deal” if they mention your name. But for the great service, products, and the fact that they sponsor you, who is afterall, someone they presumably care about. Sponsorship is difficult to measure as it relates to return on investment. Most bike shops see it as a way to lose money. Team members who walk newbies into the sponsor store and make introductions make it easier to make a case for future sponsorship.
  • Take the time to mentor juniors and newbies to the sport.
  • Volunteer for a bike rodeo or SCBC event once in awhile. The former will create more cyclists to ride with when you become an old geezer. The latter keeps us all a little safer.
  • Stop to see if a cyclist with a flat tire needs help. Even if they”re not the same type of cyclist as you. It’’s guaranteed that any tube or patch kit given up by one of you to someone else in need will be reimbursed in full by NorCal Bike Sport or Bike Peddler. Tell the rider to pay it forward to someone else someday.

Don”t

  • Disrespect your sponsor by flaunting a competitor
  • Engage or antagonize those you ‘’share” the road with
  • Wear our competitors branded products while in your sponsor stores. It REALLY hurts their feelings and leaves them wondering why they give up the deals such as power-buys when you”re a walking billboard for the other shops that don”t offer the same.
